It was a nice break from the frigid cold weather so we ditched the hat and gloves for a day and spent the afternoon exploring the Congressional Cemetery in DC. The area is pup-friendly and you can get in on a day pass with just a $10 donation. This was well worth the money and a huge area to let the dogs run around leash-free. Having so many pups enjoying the grounds and the rolling hills actually made the place feel like a happy place instead of the gloom you would expect from an old cemetery. Sage met her friend Bailey there and the two found lots of cool unique headstones to sniff. There were historical places of rest including the spot we found for J. Edgar Hoover and his family, as well as a tribute statue of Lincoln next to the burial plot for the photographer who famously captured the late President. I missed snapping a photo of Sage standing in front of Lincoln gazing up at him when she first approached the statue. It was a cute moment.
We saw tributes to senators and representatives, family crypts from the 1800’s, and even a burial place for a soldier from the Revolutionary War. The rolling hills allowed for some doggie antics as pups exploring the grounds roamed around with their owners. We ended the trip with Sage finding the one standing puddle in the entire cemetery…of course she would find the puddle and wade right in to get her paws wet. This was a fun afternoon and definitely an outing that likely takes on unique vibes at different times of the year. We may return to see the flowers on the grounds in the spring and maybe the multi-colored leaves next fall. Might even be a fun place to explore in the snow. What a cool afternoon capped off with Sage taking a moment to sit and chat with Hoover.
