Beach Fun

Beach zoomies!!!!

Mom!!!

This is funnnnnn!!!!!!!

Sage met the beach and waves for the first time in Lancaster, VA where we spent a few days along the Rappahannock River. The spot was just across the river from the 10-mile buoy marking the distance to the mouth at the Chesapeake Bay. The drive to this hidden gem was only a few hours south from the DC area. After a picturesque drive through meandering farmland we landed across the river from Urbanna, where they have a huge oyster festival in the fall. The spot on the waterfront was awesome. Despite it being a site along the river, there were tides and a beachfront along the dock due to the vicinity to the Chesapeake. We had access to dock with the hammock swings and anchored floatation, the beach, and the sprawling backyard with a hammock and firepits. The weather was a perfect breezy and 75 degrees and we slept with the sliding screen door open allowing the sound of the waves to lull us to sleep. When we ventured down to the dock, Sage saw the waves crashing along the sand for the first time. After some initial hesitation, she put her puppy paws in the sand and edged closer to the water….once a wave or two crashed near her paws she was hooked! She went in a little deeper and a wave crashed near her puppy tush. When she quickly turned around to bark at that wave, another hit her tush on the other side….and let the fun begin! Zoomies quickly ensued along the sand and between the docks. She occasionally took some breaks in the grassy hill at the back of the house to hang out by the firepit. She found sticks along the water, by the dock, and up near the firepits. It took until the second day of exciting and ear-flopping play in the waves for Sage to figure out that the sand at the water’s edge was perfect for digging holes…which was naturally followed by some furious burrowing before finding another stick and running off for me wave time! Something needs to be said for the absolute beautiful sunsets that we saw over the river. The colors were spectacular. This was an overall success of a first time at the beach. We didn’t even get to play in the kayaks or the peddle boat so we will definitely be returning to this fun getaway!
